The New Castle Community YMCA, founded many years ago by men and women of vision has grown and changed just as our community has grown and changed; but the vision has remained the same: to promote Christian values through programs that build healthy body, mind and spirit for all. Programs are the tools we use to improve people’s lives. Through programs, the YMCA creates experiences that nurture the healthy development of children, encourage positive behavior in teens and strengthen families. As this takes place, young people develop character and values; adults become better role models and leaders; families are strengthened; and the entire community reaps the benefit - demonstrating time and time again, that together, we can make a difference.
In 2007, the New Castle Community YMCA touched the lives of more than 24,000 people; people from every race, religion and socio-economic background; from the very young to the The Community place where can belong, and membership and program participants reflect makeup of our community. 41% of members are youth student. 13% of our membership is assisted financially, and we with 15 other human service organizations community.
Each spring, the New Castle Community YMCA conducts our Annual Campaign for Youth to raise financial support in order to continue making a positive impact on kids and families in our community.
The goal of this year’s campaign is $115,000 which we anticipate raising between April 16 and May 31. To date, the Board and YMCA staff of the YMCA have pledged over $32,000 toward that goal. The 2008 Annual Campaign For Youth is being chaired by Lynn Nichols. Steve Caldararo is the Chairman of the major gifts campaign and Bob Neff and Joe & Angie Haybarger will provide leadership to the Member to Member campaign. Over 50 additional YMCA members and community leaders will round out the team of volunteers working to make this campaign a success.
As a member of the YMCA and someone who understands first hand the benefits of a YMCA membership, we would like to invite all of our members to join us in reaching out to the children and families of our community through programs and services offered by the YMCA. If you would like additional information on how your gift might make a difference, please contact Bill Lutz at the downtown YMCA—724-658-4766.
It is with great pleasure that the Strategic Planning Committee presents the Five (5) year Strategic Plan for the
New Castle Community YMCA. It is our belief that if we are able to execute this plan over the next five (5) years
that the New Castle Community YMCA will not only be fulfilling it’s mission, but we will be the premier non-profit
organization in the community. This 2008 – 2012 Strategic Plan is built on consensus. Internal and external data
were carefully reviewed and surveys were conducted. This plan is performance - oriented and measurable. The
YMCA Board of Directors presents this to our members, donors and to the community as our vision of what we
will achieve. The following is a summary of the plan.
Mission: “To put Christian principles into practice by providing youth, adult and family programs that
build healthy body, mind and spirit.”
Vision: Our YMCA will help members fulfill their God-given potential. We will be a leader in building a
stronger region; one family at a time. It is our responsibility to help people I need and ensure availability
to all. Our Christian values will be reflected in the examples of our staff and volunteer leadership and
how we respond to community needs.
Goals:
1) Mission of Charity. We are respected and valued as a charitable mission driven organization. As a responsible
charity, we will be great stewards of our resources and maintain healthy margins. We will manage risk through annual
reviews to protect tax status and minimize potential liability. We will actively pursue additional giving, major gifts, and
build endowment to ensure long term sustainability. In order to fulfill our mission, we must clearly communicate to the
community who we are and what we do.
2) Enhance the Community. We will be good stewards & we will anticipate & meet our facility needs so that we can
meet the needs of the greater community. We will attract & retain the strongest volunteer leaders possible from the community
because to be a top organization, we need the top leaders. We must balance mission of charity with a strong
business foundation so that we can serve more people. We must ensure the physical, mental & spiritual health of families
because they are the core of our mission and our region.
3) Help Members Be Better People. Our members will have an all encompassing understanding of our mission, vision
& goals, resulting in active participation in all levels of organization. Our YMCA’s use of technology will enhance our
member’s knowledge and availability of services. Staff & volunteer development will result in meeting & exceeding the
needs of our members. We will implement Activate America® by 2012 resulting in supporting member’s needs to
achieve total health. We will be building strong relationships with members that will result in greater membership loyalty
& connectedness.
The goal of the YMCA is Strong Kids + Strong Families = Strong Community. By working together, we believe that the entire community is strengthened. As a member of the YMCA’s Corporate Membership Program, the YMCA invites local businesses to work together with the YMCA to improve the health and wellness of their employees as well as enhancing the quality of life for all members of our community.
How it works:
• Local businesses are invited to partner with the YMCA by supporting the Y’s Annual Campaign For Youth through our banner program. In recognition of your $1,200 gift, the YMCA displays a 3’x5’ custom banner for your business in the Y Zone.
• The YMCA will then waive the New Member Fee for each of your employees. (This is a savings of up to $124/per membership.)
• The YMCA will provide a one week “Try The Y” week for your employees.
• Corporate members will receive the “member rate” on all rentals.
• Special programs and services will be made available to your employees.
