YMCA Releases New "Open to All" Membership Rates

December 30, 2014

NEW CASTLE, Pa., December 30, 2014 Since 1865, the New Castle Community YMCA has been responding to our community’s social and physical needs. One need in particular is to provide a safe, healthy environment for “everyone to learn, grow and thrive” at a fair price. Effective Jan 1, 2015, the New Castle Community YMCA is cutting its monthly membership rates.

“Given our current economy, our mission and our desire to make the Y accessible to absolutely everyone, we are lowering our adult and family membership rates,” CEO Dick Lyons said. “This will make it easier for young couples, new families, seniors on fixed incomes and struggling single parents to join us and improve their health and well-being.”

The new monthly rate for adults will be $29; the rate for families will be $49. This represents a $12 decrease per month for both categories.

“The Y will continue to offer financial assistance to our neighbors, who cannot afford a membership,” Lyons said. “In 2014, we provided over $300,000 in financial assistance.”

“With the help of a market research company, we learned that over time our prices were not as affordable to everyone,” Louis Merryman, chair of the Y’s membership committee, said. “Our neighbors in the New Castle area want membership access to the Y and its programs and services, but they want it at a reasonable price.”

“The good news is that what our neighbors want, we can offer them. They desire both low impact and high impact group exercise classes like Yoga and Les Mills®, a pool for lap swimming and water exercise, new equipment and quality youth programs. We further understand what our community wants from us, so we can meet their needs more fully,” Lyons said.

The Y will offer two “OPEN TO ALL” open houses on Jan 17-18. Visit the Y-Zone from 1 to 3 p.m. on Jan 17 and the YMCA Downtown on Jan 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. to explore what a Y membership can offer you and your loved ones. The Y will waive the joiner fee for the entire month of January, a savings of $50 to $124. Drop in downtown at 20 West Washington Street or at the Y-Zone at 428 Eleanor Drive for a tour and trial of our facilities. You may also reach the Y’s membership director at 724-658-4766 to schedule a wellness consultation.
